The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Nigeria's Samson Adamu as its substantive General Secretary, according to a report by DAILY POST. The decision makes Adamu the first Nigerian to occupy the post in the organization's 70-year history.

Adamu previously held the administrative leadership role in an acting capacity after being named to the position on Sunday, March 29, 2026, following the resignation of Swiss-Congolese official Veron Mosengo-Omba. Before stepping into the top executive position, Adamu accumulated extensive administrative experience within CAF, having served as the organization's Director of Competitions and Director of Tournaments and Events.

The football administrator is the son of Amosu Adamu, a former member of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Executive Committee.

Following the announcement, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) congratulated Adamu on his permanent appointment. NFF Acting General Secretary Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme expressed optimism that Adamu will represent the country with distinction in his role.
