Military personnel operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully blocked a kidnapping attempt and liberated 14 hostages in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The confrontation occurred on Tuesday afternoon near Magazu Village. Armed attackers were spotted in the area, prompting a swift response from troops who had received reliable intelligence regarding their movements. Upon arriving at the scene, the soldiers engaged the gunmen, ultimately forcing them to desert their vehicle and retreat into the nearby brush.
Following the skirmish, the troops conducted a search of the surrounding territory, which led to the discovery and rescue of the 14 individuals who had been held captive.
While no military personnel sustained injuries during the clash, one of the freed hostages suffered gunshot wounds. This individual was transported to the General Hospital in Tsafe to receive medical care.
Details of the operation were shared on Wednesday via the social media platform X by security analyst Bakatsine. In his post, Bakatsine detailed the events:
“Yesterday afternoon, troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, foiled an attempted abduction around Magazu Village. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops moved in and engaged the armed attackers, forcing them to abandon their vehicle and flee into the bushes. A follow-up search led to the rescue of 14 kidnapped victims. One victim sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated to General Hospital, Tsafe, for treatment. Thankfully, no security personnel were injured,”
Bakatsine praised the soldiers for their rapid reaction, bravery, and professionalism, noting that their prompt intervention was critical in protecting the lives of the victims.
