A Sharia Court in Ungogo, Kano State, has ordered that Maimuna Muhammad be remanded in prison custody following allegations that she assaulted her friend, Khadija Safiyanu, and slashed her face with a razor blade.
The case was initiated after Safiyanu lodged a formal complaint at the Dantamashe Police Station. According to the complainant, Muhammad came to her residence, confronted her with verbal abuse, and then attacked her with a razor, leaving lacerations on her face.
At the court hearing, State Counsel Muhammad Aliyu Ibrahim presented the charge against Muhammad under Section 159 of the Kano State Sharia Penal Code. Muhammad admitted to the allegation, telling the court that she had made a mistake and expressing remorse for her actions.
The presiding judge, Malam Muhammad Shirama, subsequently ordered Muhammad to be held in prison custody pending further legal proceedings. The court adjourned the case until September 16, 2027, for the continuation of the hearing.

Kano State is one of several states in northern Nigeria that adopted Sharia law in the early 2000s, establishing Islamic courts to operate alongside the secular judicial system.
