Police in Abia State have uncovered 28 human skulls and skeletal remains, believed to belong to victims of kidnapping, during raids on two criminal hideouts located in the Umuaku-Isuochi and Nneato forests within the Umunneochi Local Government Area.

The operation was executed by a collaborative team from the Abia State Police Command, which included the Violent Crime Response Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Anti-Cultism Unit, the Intelligence Response Squad, the Isuochi Divisional Police Station, and the Rapid Response Squad.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Police Command, announced the discovery on Sunday. She explained that the raids are part of a broader, intelligence-driven campaign across the state. This initiative was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, under the banner "Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State."

According to the official press release, the suspects managed to escape as police closed in on the locations, leading to the destruction of the hideouts.

“Upon arrival of the command’s tactical operatives at the camps, the suspects fled. The criminal camps were subsequently dismantled.”
