Barcelona forward Fermin Lopez has expressed mixed emotions about relinquishing his number 16 jersey to incoming midfielder Rodri, who is finalizing a £65.4 million transfer from Manchester City.
The Spanish midfielder spoke directly with Lopez about taking over the number 16 shirt, which Rodri previously wore during his tenure with City. The transfer is expected to be officially completed in the coming days.
Following the switch, Lopez is anticipated to take over the number 7 shirt. The jersey was recently vacated by Ferran Torres, who completed a transfer to French club Paris Saint-Germain.
In an interview with Spanish outlet AS, Lopez praised his incoming teammate while reflecting on the change of squad numbers.
“Rodri will give us a lot of quality, it’s a fantastic signing,” Lopez said. “I’ve asked for number 7. I always liked it. I’m a little bit sad to leave number 16, but it will be in good hands.”
