Denmark is planning to stop granting temporary residence permits to Ukrainian refugees arriving from areas least impacted by the conflict with Russia, according to Danish Immigration Minister Morten Bodskov. This policy shift aligns with a broader movement among European countries to scale back assistance for those fleeing the war and to withdraw protections for military-aged Ukrainian men.
In a statement on Saturday, Bodskov announced that Denmark intends to implement stricter regulations for those fleeing the conflict, even though the country recently extended its Ukraine Special Act, which permits refugees to remain until March 2028. Since the conflict escalated between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022, Denmark has taken in 47,600 displaced Ukrainians, according to data provided by the minister.
Bodskov explained that a “large number” of refugees has placed certain Danish municipalities under “severe pressure” as local authorities struggle to secure housing and integrate the newcomers into society
